Daniel Nikandrov's goal with just 13 seconds to play shocked a crowd of 6,122 at the WFCU Centre, as the Sarnia Sting beat the Spitfires 2-1 on Sportsnet Friday Night Hockey.
Remy Giftopoulos had the only goal for Windsor (21-26-1-6), which failed to close ground on the eighth place Saginaw Spirit, who dropped a 6-4 decision to the Oshawa Generals.
After a scoreless first period, Reid Boucher opened the scoring with his league-leading 50th goal of the season; a power play marker at 8:29 of the second.
The game remained 1-0 until Remy Giftopoulos cashed in on Windsor's second of four power plays at 1:50 of the third period.
The Spitfires then had two more chances with the extra man in a five-minute span, but couldn't find the go-ahead goal.
In the game's waning seconds, a pair of miscues led to a turnover in the defensive zone, allowing Charles Sarault to find Nikandrov alone in the slot, where he beat Jaroslav Pavelka (22 saves) with a quick shot to the stick side.
JP Anderson stopped 31 shots in the Sarnia (31-22-0-3) goal for the win.
The Spits are right back at it on Saturday night, as they travel to Saginaw to take on the Spirit at 7:11.
